Since the 1930s, this midtown mainstay has been drawing a mixed, multi-media crowd. Film crews, directors and actors mingle with the young and hip hoping to spy a big name celebrity or two.

Morell Wine Bar

Address: 1 Rockefellor Plaza (at West 49th Street)
Phone: 212-262-7700
Website: morellwine.com

Sip from one, two or twenty wines by the glass as you soak in the sophisticated surroundings. With 100 different wines to sample, the total wine list includes over 2,000 varieties. And while the boozing is good here, the schmoozing is even better.

Nation

Address: 12 West 45th Street
Phone: 212-391-8053

Just a bar. This place doesn't pretend to have a theme or a scene or anything other than the basics. The choice of brew is better than most, and the atmosphere is notably average.

Russian Vodka Room

Address: 265 West 52nd Street
Phone: 212-307-5835
Website: www.russianvodkaroom.com

While it's rival across the street, The Russian Samovar, takes an old-world traditional approach, this Slavic hipster creates a more modern lounge experience. Black marble and carpeting set the tone for the cool interior. The crowd tends to be on the younger side and the main beverage is, of course, vodka in all its flavorful forms.

The St. Regis Hotel

Address: 2 East 55th Street
Phone: 212-753-4500
Website: www.starwoodhotels.com/stregis

One of New York's Grand Dames of luxury. This century-old landmark was long associated with Colonel J. Astor. Being an Astor he knew that only the best would do. To this day the marble, gilt and crystal appointments are impeccably maintained. The service is exceptional. Not to mention, The King Cole bar is one of the city's most treasured drinking haunts. This is one of Manhattan's finest hotels.

The View/Marriott Marquis

Address: 1535 Broadway (between West 44th & 45th Street)
Phone: 212-704-8900
Website: www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/nycmq-new-york-marriott-marquis/

Tourist heaven, this rotating bar sits directly on Time Square and has the feel of a private box overlooking the big game below. The atmosphere is fun, provided the attitude is set on tourist kitsch.

Town

Address: 15 West 56th Street, Chambers Hotel
Phone: 212-582-4445
Website: www.townnyc.com

Actually four separate establishments, no matter which one you choose, you are sure to be surrounded by stylish folks of all ages sooner than you can say "I'll have a blood-orange cosmo." The mixed concoctions are notably good, but nothing competes with the overall scene.
