15 Central Park West has quickly become one of Manhattan's most famous and luxurious addresses. It opened in 2007 and occupies the block bounded by Central Park West, Broadway and 61st and 62nd Streets.
In order to break up its massive scale, the architects created two limestone-clad towers. A 20-story building sits on the site's eastern edge along Central Park West. A 43-story tower rises above a five-story base along Broadway. A courtyard and gated driveway separates the two buildings, while a corridor and circular vestibule provide a passageway between them for residents.
Its prime location is directly across the street from Central Park, steps away from Columbus Circle and the Time Warner Center with its Whole Foods store, and the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
The developers maintain that 90 percent of the units have direct park views.
The building was designed by Robert A.M. Stern, a distinguished New York architect and dean of Yale's School of Architecture. Known for his deft interpretations of history, his Post-Modern touches here include a rooftop loggia and light sconces flanking the entrance.
The development houses 201 spacious units, with 10- to 14-foot ceilings and wood-burning fireplaces. Stern also included an additional 30 suites, available for home offices, or to house staff. Reflecting the property's luxurious nature, it also offers a private dining room with chef service, business center, and fitness area with 75-foot swimming pool, private screening room, maid-service, a game-room, and private wine cellars.
