Rock n'Roll and interior design converge at Jade, one of the newest additions to the Chelsea neighborhood. The building's concept designer and namesake Jade Jagger, daughter of rock legend Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones, is responsible for the unusual "pod" apartment layouts, reminiscent of Stanley Kubrick's film "2001."
While many loft conversions in Chelsea and other downtown neighborhoods were carved into large, often full-floor apartments, this building opted for 57 smaller units, most of which include high-gloss, free-standing "pods" containing the apartment's kitchens, bathrooms and closets. The pods have bright mosaic interiors, and are offered in four distinct schemes: the duck-egg blue and British racing green Aristo, the lapis and lilac Boho, the graphic Baroco and the gilded Luxo. Pods are either eight-foot or 10-foot, and the apartment's entrance features complementary wallpaper.
The units themselves range in size from studios, one-bedrooms, one-bedrooms with home offices, two-bedrooms and penthouses. Jagger and her team of associates pulled out all the stops for the penthouses incorporating among standard fare like floor-to-ceiling windows and vast, open living spaces, private verandas to make the feeling of exclusivity that much greater for the lucky few who will call these residences home.
The two-tiered Mediterranean terraces, featured on floors 13 and 14, overflow with exotic plants, a reflecting pool, sun deck, a Jade Fitness Center and Spa and the Lapis Lounge, outfitted with Jade Jagger for Yoo furniture and plasma screen TV. The building's Chelsea location is convenient to art galleries, vintage shops, hip dining options and several of the city's major subway lines.
