The Byron - 165 East 32nd Street: CARTER'S REVIEW

This grey-brick, 20-story apartment building was erected in 1964. It was converted to a cooperative in 1984 and has 134 units.

The building has a one-story, brown brick base, sidewalk landscaping, a canopied entrance with automatic glass doors, a concierge, basement storage, and a roof deck. It permits protruding air-conditioners and has no garage, no balconies and no health club. It has an exposed rooftop watertank.

It is just to the east of an apartment tower set in a plaza and diagonally across the avenue from another apartment tower also set in a plaza. There is a supermarket across the street and this Kips Bay neighborhood has some surprisingly nice sidestreets of townhouses and is also not far from Hospital Alley along First Avenue.

The Queens-Midtown Tunnel is a few blocks to the north and east. This area has good public transportation.
