There's another one of these interesting markets down in the East Village not far from NYU. A neighborhood fixture since 1943, to this date it remains a favorite destination for kids and adults of all ages craving a little something sugary. There's nothing too exotic here. Just chocolate and candy the way you remember it being when you were a kid.

Silver Moon is one of the newer bakeries in the neighborhood. Its French pastries and fresh breads have been a huge hit in this carb-starved neighborhood. They also offer a nice selection of sandwiches (with lots of vegetarian options to choose from) as well as salads and wraps. Last but not least, the staff seems almost preternaturally friendly.

Before New York had "Whole Foods," it had Uptown Whole Foods. Although back then it was called Gary Null's Uptown Foods, it's still the same as it ever was, but with new owners.
