The Wellston - 161 West 75th Street: CARTER'S REVIEW

This handsome, 15-story building at 161 West 75th Street was designed by Rosario Candela, the famous architect of luxury pre-war apartment buildings in the city, and it is typical of his style with a one-story limestone base, limestone quoins, some decorative balconies, a bandcourse and a nice cornice.

The building, which is known as the Wellston, has doormen, a bicycle room, a laundry, a live-in superintendent and is pet-friendly. It is also known as 321-329 Amsterdam Avenue and 172-165 West 76th Street.

It was completed in 1925 and has about 130 co-operative apartments and three elevator banks. Apartments have windowed kitchens and baths. The second floor windows have stone surrounds.

Anthony A. Paterno was the developer.
