This 16-story rental apartment building at 730 Columbus Avenue between 95th and 96th Streets was erected in 1986 and is known as the Westmount.

It has 163 apartments, a roofdeck, a fitness center, a garage, and a 24-hour attended lobby. It has a disabled ramp, bicycle storage, and a residents' party room and a children's playroom, and apartments have dishwashers, discrete air-conditioners, and some corner windows.

The building's avenue frontage is nicely modulated with three setback bays and its 96th Street corner is energized visually by the alternating width of its windows.

There is a good public transportation in this neighborhood and Central Park is one block to the east.

The building was acquired by Archstone-Smith, one of the nation's largest apartment companies, in July, 2006 for $87.8 million. The acquisition was funded primarily through tax-deferred exchange proceeds from dispositions of apartment communities that no longer meet the company's long-term investment criteria, and the assumption of $24.2 million of secured debt that will be paid off with the proceeds from the company's recent convertible debt offering.
