55 Central Park West

Co-op located in Upper West Side, at The Southwest corner of West 66th Street

Description of 55 Central Park West

Designed by the renowned architects Schwartz and Gross, 55 Central Park West was built in 1929 and is landmarked and prominently featured on the National Register of Historic Places. Colloquially remembered as the 'Ghostbusters Building," the building's Art Deco exterior is distinguished by pointed finials and transitioning brick from a dark red to a yellow tone. The Art Deco lobby restoration was awarded the 2019 Stanford White Award for Historic Preservation from the Institute for Classical Architecture. It was also awarded an "A" for energy efficiency, having modernized its infrastructure with new heating, water, electrical, and fire systems, new elevators, and a co-generation plant.

Amenities include a superintendent, full-time door staff, furnished roof terrace with sun deck, wet bar, and vegetable garden, bicycle and playroom, laundry facility, individual storage (when available), and is pet and pied-a-terre friendly. The building is close to Lincoln Center (home to the world-famous Metropolitan Opera), Columbus Circle, Deutsche Bank Center, and several subway and bus lines.

Carter Horsley's Review of 55 Central Park West

Carter Horsley's Building Review
"One of the city's authentic and important Art Deco gems, this 20-story apartment house is noted for its rakish, fluted finials and its subtle shading of bricks, which range from dark red at the base to pale beige at the top.

It was built by Earle and Calhoun on a site formerly occupied by a 9-story apartment building." Read Carter's Full Review
