Liberty Tower, 55 Liberty Street

Co-op located in Financial District, between Broadway & Nassau Street

Description of Liberty Tower at 55 Liberty Street

Located at 55 Liberty Street, Liberty Tower is one of New York's original skyscrapers. It was completed in 1909, and President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's law office was one of the first commercial tenants. The striking terra cotta façade and carvings of lions, falcons, and gargoyles were instrumental in its being granted the Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award from the Landmarks Preservation Commission.

Following its conversion to a cooperative, the building is staffed by a friendly and efficient 24-hour door staff and a live-in superintendent. It is zoned for District 2, Spruce Street School, and is close to the Oculus, Brookfield Place, and the new South Street Seaport.

"One of the great skyscrapers of Lower Manhattan, this Gothic Revival-style tower at 55 Liberty Street on the northeast corner at Nassau Street was erected in 1910 and designed by Henry Ives Cobb.
