Hudson Condo - 225 West 60th Street: CARTER'S REVIEW

This 18-story, mixed-use building at 225 West 60th Street opened in 2006 and has 80 residential condominiums and a 40,000-square-foot, five-level facility for Lander College for Women of Touro College.

Gruzen Samton is the architect and the building was developed by West 60th St. Realty Partners of which Joel and Margaret Kestenbaum and Stanley Listokin are principals.

The tower is setback above the base and also on its west façade where there are private terraces on the 17th and 18th floors facing the Hudson River. On the south façade, the center portion of the façade above the 13th floor is clad in metal panels that continue as a screen wall up to the roof and give the building strong accent lines. The residential tower has corner windows and blue-green glass façades.

The building is located between West End Avenue and Amsterdam Avenue and is close to the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and the Time Warner Center as well as several major new high-rise construction sites.

Some of the apartments have 10-foot-high ceilings and kitchens have honed lava gold stone countertops with full-height backsplashes, under-counter-mount sinks, Jenn-Air refrigerators, Stainless Whirlpool stoves, and Bosch dishwashers.

Master bathrooms have deep soaking Zuma bathtubs, seamless glass showers, afrormosia wood vanities with double basin sinks and Jerusalem Bone stone tile and tub enclosures.

The building has a rooftop garden and lounge, a children’s playroom on the third floor, and a health club with an outdoor yoga terrace on the sixth floor.

The one-, two- and three- bedroom apartments initially started at about $675,000.

Some of the penthouse units have fireplaces. Two-bedroom, two-bath units have about 1,167 square feet of space.

The school facility includes a double-height gym, a library, a cafeteria, 3 laboratories, 17 classrooms and administration, faculty and student offices as well as a terrace accessible from the second floor. The liberal arts and science program will serve a student population of 425.
