About 309 East 87th Street
This attractive, 7-story, mid-block, apartment building was erected in 1960 and is a cooperative with 122 apartments.
The red-brick building has a one-story white marble base with a four-step-down entrance with a small marquee and a four-step-down lobby. It has sidewalk landscaping, a doorman, and consistent fenestration, but no health club, no roof deck, and no garage although there is one across the street. The building has fire escapes.
This lively neighborhood has many restaurants, including Elaine's, which is one block away on Second Avenue, and good local shopping. There is excellent cross-town bus service on 86th Street where there is also an express subway station at Lexington Avenue.
While there are no nearby parks, the charming Carnegie Hill neighborhood with its many cultural and religious institutions and many private schools is nearby to the west.
There is considerable traffic on the avenue as well as considerable nightlife but the sidestreets are quiet.
