About Beekman Mansions, 439 East 51st Street
Anchoring the north end of Beekman Place, this very handsome 10-story building was erected in 1925. It is a cooperative and has 36 apartments.
The beige-brick building is very close to the entrance to the Peter Detmold Park at the end of this dead-end street that overlooks the East River.
The two blocks of Beekman Place are among the most attractive in the city.
This building has very nice hanging lanterns flanking its canoped, arched entrance and its façade has very fine stone bas-reliefs on the first floor. It has sidewalk landscaping, consistent fenestraton and discrete air-conditioners, but no garage and no health club.
There are numerous pleasant restaurants in this charming Beekman Place area, which is adjacent to the United Nations complex.
There is good cross-town bus service on 49th and 50th Streets, but subways are not close.
