About The Grand Beekman, 400 East 51st Street
This handsome, 32-story tower was completed in 2003 and is a condominium with 89 apartments.
The building has a six-story base and is distinguished by a very well articulated and distinctive top.
The base is rusticated and the façade is quite sophisticated. The six-story base actually rises to a seventh-story in two sections along the avenue and the fourth through the seventh floors in these sections are highlighted by three pilasters each. The top of the tower has five-story-high pilasters in its center avenue frontage and three pilasters rise the full height of the enclosed rooftop water-tank along the avenue.
The building has many corner bay windows and is the most elegant, post-modern building along First Avenue. It is across the street from another luxury apartment tower, the Beekman Regent at 351 East 51st Street, that was in construction at the same time and this building is a few blocks to the north of Donald Trump's very tall Trump World tower that looms over the nearby United Nations.
This building is very close to the charming and small Beekman Place neighborhood and not far from Sutton Place.
The building, which was developed by Alexico Management and Gama Holdings, has a doorman, a concierge, valet service, a conservatory, gardens, a health club, and a children's play room. Apartments have mahogany floors, crown moldings, large windows, Viking refrigerators and ranges, and Miele dishwashers.
It has no balconies and no garage and there is considerable traffic. There is nearby cross-town bus service but the building is not close to a subway.
