About 190 Riverside Drive
This very handsome, 11-story apartment building was erected in 1908 and converted to a condominium in 1999.
The building, which has many protected views of Riverside Drive and the Hudson River, has an impressive, 3-story, rusticated limestone base and extensive sidewalk landscaping. Its massing is nicely modulated between the third and 10th floors by piers that contain three windows each, two of which are angled. The building also sports an attractive cornice and a balustrated balcony above its second floor.
The building was bought from Roman Sherer in 1996 by Property Markets Group for $7 million, which is renovating its apartments that feature paneled living and dining rooms, 10-foot-high ceilings and decorative plasterwork. The renovation work is in many instances restoring the original layouts of two apartments per floor of more than 3,300 square feet each. The building has no health club and no garage.
One of the city's best private schools, Trinity School, is a few blocks to the east on 91st Street and there are many restaurants and stores nearby on Broadway. This neighborhood is one of the city's finest architecturally. There is good bus service on Riverside Drive and Broadway but the nearest cross-town bus service is on 86th and 96th Streets where there are also subway stations.
