Foundation work has officially started on the latest (bland) mixed-use rental coming to East Williamsburg. Recent construction photos taken by CityRealty reveal a rendering for a 35-unit, 8-story building coming to 885 Grand Street. The site, located between Bushwick Avenue and Olive Street, has new building work permits dating all the way back to 2009. Demolition permits for its former one-story auto center were filed in 2013 and new building plans were refiled and approved in the last two years.

The building will reach a height of 83 feet and hold 2,330 square feet of commercial space and 27,660 square feet of residential space, meaning residences will average 768 square feet apiece. The owner is Alphonse Milo of Oceanside, NY and the architect of record is listed as OCV Architects.

Permits call for retail on the ground floor, bike storage, 11 parking spaces (8 open and 3 enclosed), indoor recreation on the first floor, and an outdoor recreation space on the fifth floor. Most of the units will be concentrated on floors 2-7 while just two will be held on the top floor.

885 Grand Street is situated just down the block from the L train at the Grand Street train station, and a few blocks away from the 87-unit amenity-filled condo called Olive Park.
