As our blog 6sqft reports, earlier today the Landmarks Preservation Commission heard testimony and approved a somewhat controversial plan for a seasonal rooftop structure atop Pier 17 in the Seaport Historic District. The pier itself was approved in 2015, and the now-approved rooftop structure will help to create an outdoor venue for varied use - everything from movie screenings to tennis matches.

Representatives from developers Howard Hughes Corporation were present, as was the structure’s designer, German architect Achim Menges. Read more about the project on 6sqft and check out some of the futuristic renderings below.
