Progress is expected to continue on a project occupying the West 176th Street block between Broadway and Wadsworth Avenue in Washington Heights. Permits indicate that 64 Wadsworth Avenue will become a modern 8-story commercial building for a variety of uses. The entire proposal rises to 115 feet with 74,752 SF; there are 19,984 SF dedicated to commercial use and 54,752 for community facilities.
The Harlem-based firm of Cogen Architects is listed as the applicant of record and a rendering of the design is posted at the site showing a setback after the 4th floor and floor-to-ceiling windows at the base. Retail and service establishment will occupy the the ground floor and second level, and the community facility will be on floors 3 through 8. Construction signage lists Ground to Sky City Builders Corp. as the general contractor.

The site is directly across from the historic United Palace theater which is Manhattan’s fourth largest theater with focuses on spirituality, art, culture and of course, entertainment. The Plaza de las Americas market is just a block away on West 176th Street and nearby transit includes the A train at W. 175th Street and Fort Washington Ave and the 1 train and W. 181st Street and St. Nicholas Ave.
