Built between 1962 and 1971, the sprawling complex is spread across 40 connected acres of land. So big, it has its own newspaper, as the New York Post recently highlighted. LeFrak City is along the Long Island Expressway and is within walking distance to destinations like the Queens Center Mall, and Flushing Meadows Corona Park which includes the USTA grounds, the Queens Zoo and the New York Hall of Science.
The major renovations at the complex were master-planned by Rosen Johnson Architects, and the grounds and courtyards have been designed by Mathew Nielsen Landscape Architects. Many areas of the property have received updates including athletic courts and fields, the great lawn, building lobbies, and playgrounds.
In 2012, the LeFrak Organization began the $70 million reinvestment of the property, which also included updates to common areas, green initiatives like solar panels, façade repairs, and new parking decks.
