In central Harlem, a number of key developments are beginning to take shape.

A block north of the neighborhood's famous 125th street, a residential building is being constructed at 181 West 126th Street (also known as 2121 Adam Clayton Powell Jr Boulevard) rising to 9 floors with 22 residential units spread over 16,812 square feet and 2,779 square feet of ground floor commercial space. Renderings show a brick facade with a gray palette and columns of black-framed windows. The ground floor will hold up to three businesses and the residential units are located on the 2nd through 9th floors. The property will feature units with private terraces, resident-only bike parking and a shared roof deck. Permits were first filed in 2014 and list the owner as Noorollah Asherian of 2121 ACP, LLC and the applicant of record as Long Island-based Frank Petruso Architect, PC.

One block north of this project at the intersection of Adam Clayton Powell Jr Boulevard and West 127th Street, the newly constructed rental building known as 2130 ACP offers luxury-style residences in studio, one, two and three bedroom layouts with open kitchens, in-unit laundry and several amenities including a fitness center and roof deck. Roseland Management Company handles leasing and current listings show a studio with a balcony for $2,450/month. Two years ago, a newly constructed 10-story building known as Harlem Dowling opened at 2139 Adam Clayton Powell Jr Boulevard offering 60 rental units.

All three buildings are within walking distance to numerous retail and dining options on 125th Street, and the area has great access to transit including the 1,2,3 and A,B,C,D subway lines. Marcus Garvey Park is in the neighborhood and offers lush grounds and an outdoor swimming pool, and both Morningside Park and Central Park are within walking distance.

Also known as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, the 125th Street thoroughfare is home to the legendary Apollo Theater and the lesser known, and shuttered, Victoria Theater, which is on the same block. While Apollo continues to be a source of entertainment and talent, the latter theater is in the process of being redeveloped to include 191 apartments, a hotel and a cultural center. The redesign of the Victoria Theater is by Aufgang Architects and offers an adaptive reuse of the facade and lobby of the 100-year-old theater.

At 144 W. 125th Street is the Studio Museum of Harlem, which acts as "the nexus for artists of African descent locally, nationally and internationally and for work that has been inspired and influenced by black culture." The museum is currently closed but offers temporary exhibition space, and a new building designed by Adjaye Associates is in the works. The Studio Museum's new building will replace the institution’s former home inside a pre-war bank building. The brand-new 82,000-square-foot building will have more than 17,000 square feet of space devoted to galleries and exhibition space, allowing the museum to better showcase its 2,000-object permanent collection.

Also undergoing a renovation and restoration is the nearby Alhambra Theater at 2118 Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard. The project is just about done and will offer commercial and retail space. The team led by Jem Realty Management has reinstalled its hacked-away cornices and will include a string of glass-fronted storefronts at street level.
