865 First Avenue: CARTER'S REVIEW

This 17-story, brown-brick rental apartment building has a prime location near Beekman Place and the United Nations.

Erected in 1926, the building has 79 apartments. Its design is rather unusual with a helter-skelter arrangement of terracotta detailing in a very asymmetrical fashion, reflecting an enjoyment of interesting masonry that was popular in its era.

The building has an elevator person, a laundry on the first floor and it allows protruding air-conditioners and pets. It has high ceilings and has some fireplaces and has double-paned windows to cut down on the noise from the considerable traffic on First Avenue.

There is good cross-town bus service on 49th and 50th Streets and there is good neighborhood shopping in this neighborhood.
