Place 57 CLOSE
This very sleek and striking, angled, 36-story tower between Third and Second Avenues is one of most attractive reflective glass-clad residential buildings in midtown.
The mid-block building occupies the former site of the Sutton Movie Theater and was erected at about the same time as Sutton 57, a 24-story non-reflective-glass-clad tower with 38 units across the street at 212 East 57th Street. Both buildings were completed in 2006.
There are no more than two apartments a floor in this building, which is slightly cantilevered at its northwest corner. The west, north and south facades of the building are clad in the reflective class but the east facade is windowless as it is a "party wall."
The building has 68 apartments, a 24-hour concierge, a fitness center, a residents lounge, a children's playroom, individual storage units and a concierge service is available.
Working in partnership with famed crystal maker Baccarat, features include a lobby with crystal lighting and decor and an outdoor garden ornamented with chandeliers. Both are designed by interior designer Vicente Wolf.
The two- and three-bedroom apartments were initially priced from about $1.47 million to $3.35 million and most units have excellent midtown vistas. Apartments have Santos mahogany floors, walk-in closets, safes, Viking kitchens, Waterworks bathroom fixtures and most units have long galleries.
Ismael Leyva was the architect and the developer is The Clarett Group.
Clarett's other developments include the 64-unit Opus at 2770 Broadway on the Upper West Side, the Sky House, a 55-story condominium tower at 11 East 29th Street, the Chelsea House, a 13-story condominium project at 130 West 19th Street, and the Post Luminaria at 385 First Avenue at 23rd Street.
Place 57 is convenient to Bloomingdale's and Wendy's and the tram to Roosevelt Island. There are many restaurants and shops nearby as well as good public transportation.
