The Cameo - 311 West 50th Street: CARTER'S REVIEW

The Cameo at 311 West 50th Street is a modest but handsome at one of the city’s best mid-block locations.

It overlooks the very large, through-block plaza between the commercial skyscraper and the residential components of World Wide Plaza on the full block between 49th and 50th Streets and Eighth and Ninth Avenues, the former site of Madison Square Garden.

The plaza is highlighted by a large sculpture, considerable seating and handsome food stands.

The location is close to the Theater District and the impressive renaissance in this millennium of Eighth Avenue highlighted by the construction of many new towers including The New York Times Building and the Hearst Tower.

There is excellent public transportation with cross-town buses and subways. In addition to being only four blocks north of Restaurant Row, there are many restaurants on Ninth Avenue.

This 7-story building has a concierge, a fitness center, a laundry room, a sundeck and garden and a garage with direct elevator access and a video security system.

The building, which has 102 rental apartments, was designed by Schuman Lichtenstein Claman & Efron and has a two-tone rusticated facade with an indented center section and a cornice.

Apartments have floor-to-ceiling windows, and some apartments have windowed, open kitchens and breakfast bars and others have u-shaped kitchens or pass-through kitchens.

The development was built by Levine Buidlings whose other projects in the city include 95 Charles Street, 235 East 95th Street, 325 Fifth Avenue, 242 East 25th Street and 555 East 23rd Street.
