This very impressive, 15-story, co-operative apartment building at 315 West 106th Street was designed by Rosario Candela for the Paterno Brothers Corporation in 1926.

It originally had 46 apartments but subsequently some large apartments were divided and there are now 52 apartments.


BOTTOM LINE

A very elegant building just steps from Riverside Drive, this doorman, pre-war apartment building was designed by Rosario Candela with impressive layouts.


DESCRIPTION

The building has a two-story stone base with an arched entrance surround and prominent window surrounds on the lower four floors.  

The fourth floor windows have balustrades and pediments.  

There is a decorative balcony in the center of the 10th floor façade and two on the seventh floor. 

The building has a substantial cornice and three bandcourses.


AMENITIES

The building has a full-time doorman, bicycle storage, a laundry and personal storage.  It permits window air-conditioners and has no roof deck, no garage, no fitness center and no entrance canopy.


APARTMENTS

Many of the front apartments on upper floors have views to the west of the Hudson River. 

Apartment 8A is a three bedroom unit with a 13-foot-long entry foyer, a 23-foot-long living room, a 26-foot-long dining room, a 13-foot-long kitchen, and two maid’s rooms.  

Apartment 16B is a three –bedroom unit with a 10-foot-long foyer that leads directly to a 15-foot-dining room adjacent to a 12-foot-long pantry and a 13-foot-long kitchen.  The apartment also has a 22-foot-long living room and a maid’s room. 

Apartment 6C is a two-bedroom unit with a foyer that leads to a 27-foot-long living/dining room adjacent to a 12-foot-long pantry and a 15-foot-long kitchen.  The apartment also has a 9-foot-long maid’s room.


LOCATION

In addition to the proximity to Riverside Park, the building is very convenient to shopping along Broadway where there is also good bus transportation.  It is also not too far from Columbia University and Central Park.
