Carter Horsley's Review of 930 Fifth Avenue

Carter Horsley's Building Review
"This handsome, 19-story apartment building at 930 Fifth Avenue on the northeast corner at 74th Street was erected in 1940 by Harold and Percy Uris and designed by Emery Roth. This classical-style apartment house has Italian Renaissance motifs and a superior location facing the model boat pond in Central Park. It has 138 co-operative apartments and replaced mansions owned by the Chapin, Rentschler and Schiff families. This is quite formal compared to some of Roth's other designs, but its fine proportions, beautiful detailing, and superior location make up for any lack of exuberance. Features include Greek volutes, bracketed loggia, balustrades, pilasters, broken pediments, and cherubs' faces.

This elegant building has a prime Fifth Avenue location, an elevator operator, doorman and concierge and architecture and spacious layouts by Emery Roth as well as some fireplaces." Read Carter's Full Review
