Better Brick and Mortar: Green Depot Comes to Manhattan

FEBRUARY 13, 2009

A new Manhattan store helps you care for the planet when you care for your home

Green Depot
The Brooklyn-based building-supply company Green Depot recently opened its doors at 222 Bowery, a landmarked building formerly home to the city's first YMCA and the studios of downtown artists and authors in decades past. The new environmentally-aware flagship store fills the 3,500 square-foot space with cleaning products, paint supplies–the store will feature New York City’s first zero-VOC (volatile organic compounds) paint center–baby-care products, home design items and other do-less-harm DIY construction and cleaning products. A waste-busting tap system for cleaning supplies lets you to bring in and refill your empties for a discount. As for practicing what they purvey, the company renovated the space using mostly products from their own shelves, and the store is a candidate for LEED certification.
