Cool, Crafty Holiday Gifts

NOVEMBER 21, 2008

Get some market values and re-gift-proof your presents this year

It's that time again. Silver bells and sleigh bells and Salvation Army bells. The chain-store goodie-machine offers a tempting buffet, but if you want to be known as gifter extraordinaire again this year, you'll want to find something unique and perhaps a bit—yes!—inexpensive. Your one-stop rendez-vous opens its (out-of-) doors this weekend. The Holiday Market at Union Square, now in its 13th year, offers crafts, creations, and just plain stuff—holiday-themed and not—from over 100 vendors. The Market's wares include imported and handmade holiday ornaments and decorations, antique prints, fine art, toys for kids, gourmet goodies, handcrafted jewelry and leather, golf accessories, bath items, cashmere, French linens, pet accessories and clothing.

Union Square Park,
Saturday, November 22 - Wednesday, December 24.
Monday – Friday 11am – 8pm; Saturdays 10am – 8pm; Sundays 11am – 7pm

For quirky, crafty, and cute handmade gifts, a few of slightly-more-hip holiday marts are one-day affairs. The Etsy approved Holiday Handmade Cavalcade takes over the Knitting Factory on December 6, and Brooklyn art space Third Ward and Brooklyn Based are hosting The Handmade Holiday Craft Fair on December 7.
