Meet in the city and get out of town with some old or new friends

"Get out of the bubble." The most welcome use of the bubble metaphor we've heard in a while beckons from the tag line for travel company Urban Escapes. The company specializes in outdoor excursions, from whitewater rafting in the Poconos to hiking and camping in the Catskills to rock climbing in the Shawangunks, with the occasional outer-bubble jaunts to more exotic locales. They take care of the details, all you have to do is show up for the fun. The idea was hatched by a group of friends who enjoyed travel, and it grew when friends brought friends. Their mission: "to promote lifestyles and business operations that are socially and environmentally responsible."

On the calendar for this month are a cabin weekend in the Poconos and a winter hike and tubing trip in New Jersey's Sterling Forest (hot chocolate included!). Meeting spots are generally at convenient Manhattan locations so you can work your way out of the bubble gradually. And they schedule regular happy-hour meetups in the city so you can find out more or meet fellow travelers for your next adventure. Urban Escapes also offers custom trips for corporate or club outings, and if you organize a group of 12 or more you travel free!
