Even if you're a transplant from the countryside, you can still find fresh, locally grown edibles at greenmarkets throughout New York City. NYC apartments near greenmarkets

Dozens of New York City neighborhoods benefit from the city’s GrowNYC Greenmarket program. In Manhattan alone, there are up to 25 markets open during prime season. To find the greenmarket closest to your apartment, check out GrowNYC's 2012 Greenmarket Map.

Here are some of New York City's most popular greenmarkets:
- The Union Square Greenmarket is the city’s largest, open four days a week and known for its astounding selection.
- Grand Army Plaza's Greenmarket at the entrance to Brooklyn’s Prospect Park is the city’s second largest, drawing shoppers from nearby Park Slope, Prospect Heights, and beyond.
- The TriBeCa Greenmarket at Greenwich and Chambers Streets offers a community composting program in addition to locally-grown produce, cooking demos and educational activities.

CSA (Community Sponsored Agriculture) is another great way to get farm-fresh food in New York. CSA organizations arrange for a seasonal selection of locally-grown produce to arrive on a weekly basis at a convenient neighborhood gathering spot.
