Holiday Shopping in the Neighborhood

DECEMBER 14, 2011

A few spirited events make holiday shopping in your ‘hood seem less like a chore, more like a party.

The Season’s Best Holiday Windows
Upper East Side: Bloomingdale’s 59th Street gets social with cameras that post your mug on their Facebook page, and Barney’s goes Gaga with mechanical wonders that showcase the creativity of the platinum-haired performer. But it’s hard to top Bergdorf’s furry fantasy world run by anthropomorphized taxidermied creatures large and small.
Bergdorf Goodman, 5th Avenue at 59th Street; Bloomingdale’s, 59th Street at Lexington Avenue; Barney’s New York, Madison Avenue at 61st Street

Brooklyn Night Bazaar
Williamsburg: The kind of shopping, gathering, eating, drinking holiday event that’s actually fun, this three-day late-night warehouse event is no scruffy affair. Expect cool goods from top local vendors as well as some of the city’s best food and drink plus the very merry musical contributions of DJ James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) and bands like the Hold Steady.
