Neighborhood Holiday Shops and Top Pop-Ups

DECEMBER 7, 2011

‘Tis the season to find a bounty of markets and pop-up shops in every neighborhood, offering one-of-a-kind gifts, just-right items and handmade goodies galore.

Union Square and Columbus Circle Urban Space holiday markets are the biggies. They’ve been keeping the elves overworked for more than 16 years. They’re open through December 24, and you’ll find everything from edibles to wearables to trimmings for the tree.

In Midtown, the Grand Central Holiday Fair (which includes a cache of hot modern gifts from the MoMA Store) and the Holiday Shops at Bryant Park (with the Real Simple pop-up shop, a skating rink and much more) guarantee that you’re never far from a shopping opportunity. The WIRED store—this year at 42nd Street and Broadway—provides endless temptation of the shiny new gadget variety for as long as the season lasts. 7,000 square feet of sweets will make the Dylan’s Candy Bar pop-up at 42nd Street and 6th Avenue hard to resist.

Head to Chelsea if you’re lookng for the creative and unique in the form of handmade arty goodies at Artists and Fleas and Jingle at Chelsea Market.

In SoHo, the two-day Bust Holiday Craftacular and Food Fair is the perfect chance to scoop up cool jewels and funky fashions. Paws for a while at the Holiday Pet Pop-up Shop from Pet Socialite Events to find stocking stuffers for your four-legged friends.

In the Lower East Side, the Ernest Alexander Holiday Pop Up Shop is a one-stop source for classic gifts for the men on your list.

In Cobble Hill/Carroll Gardens you’ll go nuts for the collection of shiny bits and baubles from cutting-edge-cool designers at the Shiny Squirrel Pop Up at stylish men’s boutique Smith + Butler.
