Trump Condo-Tel gets the green light amid resistance; St. Vincent's still waiting on designs they can live with for National Maritime Union replacement

In the latest Trump Soho news, The Soho Alliance—a community group—says it will appeal the high court ruling that the Department of Buildings was within its rights to issue a permit to the Trump SoHo hotel/condo project at 246 Spring Street. The building's potential for permanent residential status had raised concern after claims that the 46-story building was in a manufacturing zone where no permanent residential development is allowed. There is concern that many owners will use this as their primary, year-round residence.

The Landmarks Preservation Commission has yet to be pleased with proposed designs for the replacement of the St. Vincent's Hospital building on the west side of Seventh Avenue between 12th and 13th streets. The alternatives presented for the replacement for Albert Ledner's nautically styled National Maritime Union Building, notable for its scalloped edges, have been repeatedly sent back to the drawing board. According to Commissioner Margery Perlmutter "It's a little bit frustrating when every time we ask for alternatives, we get an off-handed response that lacks the quality, details, and attention of the original proposal."
