Condos will rise where Schraffts once stood; Converted apartments are up for sale in Harlem

A 4-unit, 10-story condominium, designed by Alta Indelman for Marek Kiyashka, will reportedly be the newest addition to the southeast corner of Fifth Avenue and 13th Street in the space where the elegant Schrafft's building once stood. The family fare standby and popular ladies' lunch destination of the early 20th century was later replaced by the Lone Star restaurant before it was nearly destroyed by a fire in 2006. In its Lone Star days, you might remember the establishment by the 40-foot iguana basking above, the creation of Texas artist Bob Wade. The new condo will feature double-height multi-paned windows reminiscent of its pre-lizard days.

Marketing has begun for the Central Park Plaza condominiums in Harlem. The apartment conversion at 1845 and 1851 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard will offer an attended lobby, a roof deck and concierge service with the Abigail Michaels seal of approval and a fitness center. The buildings have a storied history regarding the original tenants' battle–which they eventually lost–to keep their homes when the current owner–who occupies the top floor with his family–purchased it in 2004 for $8.1 million.
