Notable NYC Neighbors

FEBRUARY 9, 2012

NY Knicks center Tyson Chandler is moving to the star-studded Rushmore condo building at 80 Riverside Boulevard. (Robin Williams may be a neighbor, NYC condos celebritiesthough A-Rod is on the way out.) Chandler’s new full-floor rental apartment boasts five bedrooms and 3,585-square-feet of home court advantage. The rent listed on the unit is $32,500 per month, though Chandler is reportedly just “test driving” the space (NYPost).

Oscar-winning filmmaker Sofia Coppola is leaving NoLita for a big townhouse. Coppola recently put her unpretentious 1,771 square-foot loft condo at the Solita Building at 161 Grand Street on the market for $2.75 million. Coppola, who recently married singer and Phoenix frontman Thomas Mars, just bought a 5,719 square-foot, three-unit townhouse at 45 Morton Street. The five-story townhouse, purchased by the couple for $9.85 million (considerably higher than the $8.8 million asking price), includes a four bedroom triplex apartment with a 2,000 square-foot garden (RealEstalker, WSJ).

Grammy-winning R&B singer Aaron Neville and his wife just bought a duplex penthouse apartment in the Randall House condop at 63 East 9th Street in Greenwich Village for $1.4 million (NYObserver).

Notable temporary neighbors: Word is that starting February 16, Justin Timberlake--singer, actor, frequent SNL host--may be in the East Village on East 9th Street shooting a Coen brothers movie about the Village folk scene in the '60s (via Gothamist).
