Notable NYC Neighbors

JANUARY 30, 2013

Many of the city’s most notable residents combine several units and customize every square inch to turn their already-fabulous apartments into one-of-a-kind homes.

Though he reportedly spends most of his time at his home in Connecticut, Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson (Diner, Rain Man) just bought a condo in SoHo. The classic downtown loft spans 3,000 square feet and was listed at $5.95 million (the filmmaker paid $5.65 mil). The apartment in the turn-of-the-century building at 104 Wooster Street and has 13-foot ceilings, a private elevator landing and a fireplace (NYPost).

Brit rock star (he’s an original Genesis member) Mike Rutherford recently listed his spacious loft on prime Bond Street in NoHo. Rutherford purchased the 1 Bond Street condo (originally two units) for $5.03 million in 2008 and proceeded to invest time and cash in a top-to-toe reno. The loft, with its original iron columns and banks of floor-to-ceiling windows, is on the market for $7.995 million (CurbedNY).

Get a peek inside Bethenny Frankel’s Tribeca condo–the Real Housewife and Skinnygirl diet drink mogul bought the 16-windowed condo at 195 Hudson Street in the summer of 2011 for $4.995 million and proceeded to give it a thorough overhaul with lots of white and beige and plenty of girlie touches (CurbedNY).

A triplex maisonette at 179 East 78th Street belonging to David Duchovny and ex Tea Leoni (the couple split in 2011) recently hit the market for $9.25 million. The four-bedroom Upper East Side co-op, a combo of three former artist studios, features 13-foot ceilings and–often one of the perks of owning a maisonette–a private garden (DailyMail).
