Notable NYC Neighbors

APRIL 25, 2013

Neighborhoods that attract socialites (Libet Johnson), artists (Marina Abramovic) and interior design stars (Nate Berkus) aren’t always predictable...except when they are.

Notable exes David Duchovny and Tea Leoni are still looking for a buyer for their Upper East Side maisonette at 170 East 78th Street for $8.5 million–down from its original $9.25 million list price back in January. The pair bought the five-bedroom triplex co-op with wood-burning fireplaces, a fully tricked-out kitchen and a garden back in 2008 for $6.25 million (NYPost).

Jesse Tyler Ferguson of Modern Family TV comedy fame is reportedly renting an apartment at the Lucida at 151 East 85th Street. The amenity-packed 122-unit condo offers a 24-hour doorman, a concierge, a spa with a skylit pool, a residents’ lounge with a catering kitchen and a Kidville-designed children’s playroom (NYPost).

Interior designer and Oprah pal Nate Berkus has listed his West Village one-bedroom at 32 Downing Street for $699,000. The recently-engaged Berkus also owns a 3-bedroom duplex at 19 West 9th Street, but the smaller co-op is newly renovated – a.k.a. officially blessed with the Berkus interior cachet – and was also featured in O at Home magazine (CurbedNY).

Socialite Libet Johnson has been attempting to trim her real estate holdings in recent years. The Johnson & Johnson heiress has had the Vanderbilt mansion on the market for $50 million for at least a year; more recently, she listed a 2-bedroom 30th-floor condo in the Trump International Hotel and Tower at 1 Central Park West for $4 million (NYObserver).

After selling her SoHo loft at 70 Grand Street for $3.2 million last year, performance artist Marina Abramovic recently acquired a $2.65 million apartment at the Philip Johnson-designed Urban Glass House at 330 Spring Street, also in SoHo. The 1,722 square-foot, 2-bedroom condo boasts floor-to-ceiling windows and Annabelle Selldorf-designed interiors (CurbedNY).
