Notable NYC Neighbors

AUGUST 7, 2013

Designer interiors, size, and location, location, location help sell the city’s most expensive properties (and notable neighbors certainly don’t hurt).

John Edelman, CEO of high-end modern furniture resource Design Within Reach recently found a buyer for his penthouse at 150 West 26th Street, which just entered contract for more than $4 million. The 2,000 square-foot three-bedroom condo, boasting an interior space designed by Edelman himself, offers 12-foot ceilings and three large private terraces (NYPost).

The covetable penthouse at The Whitman at 21 East 26th Street is now on the market. The condo conversion contains only four residences, one of which was recently purchased by former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton for $10.5 million. The penthouse, at an ask of $25 million, is the only remaining unsold unit in the building. The 10,000 square-foot duplex overlooks Madison Square Park and offers 3,000 square feet of outdoor space–including a croquet pitch and a putting green–on two levels, a private elevator, four Miele ovens, a grow light for indoor gardening and much more. The increasingly popular residential and cultural area often referred to as NoMad is also home to top residences like the Grand Madison at 225 Fifth Avenue and One Madison Park at 23 East 22nd Street (CurbedNY).

Mexican billionaire Carlos Peralta has set a record for Trump Tower by selling his 2,510 square-foot apartment for $14.3 million. The buyer, Japanese retail and real estate mogul Kesao Fukae, paid about $1 million more than the original ask for the three-bedroom condo at 721 Fifth Avenue with a view of the park. Fukae sold his apartment at the Park Imperial at 230 West 56th Street for $7.75 million last November (TRD).

A sprawling penthouse at 120 East 87th Street on the Upper East Side is on the market for $17 million. The lavish 6,265 square-foot pad featuring four bedrooms, 14-foot ceilings, a jacuzzi, a wood-paneled library, a huge terrace and a private "guest home" weathered price chops that left it at $14.8 million before the recent markup (CurbedNY).
