NYC Living This Week: Art Week Edition

MARCH 7, 2012

From West Chelsea to Williamsburg to the Armory in far West Midtown, Armory Arts Week is inNYC apartment living - Art Fair Week full effect March 8-11.

The Armory Show: The Armory Show at Piers 92 and 94 (12th Avenue at 55th Street ) is the big one that anchors this annual spring art whirl. Artists and gallerists from scores of international galleries and squillions of dealers, buyers and hangers-on will be milling, wheeling, dealing and schmoozing.

Smaller but no less stellar: From on-the-radar mini-fairs, each with a different slant on the galleries, artists and themes they represent–like Scope, Volta, Fountain and Brooklyn Art Night, for which galleries stay open late–to dozens of even smaller events, the NYC Art Week buffet seems never-ending.

It’s all about the parties: The MoMA benefit party at the museum in Midtown kicks off the week, but look for dozens of more intimate soirees, shindigs and happenings all week long.

See the Armory Arts Week site for a schedule of events and more information.

Whitney Biennial: As if in a parallel art universe, the 2012 Whitney Biennial is up this month as well, so the entire art world can make a dash through the Upper East Side museum between fairs.
