Big Condo Deals15 central park west condo sales

Another pricey palace within the coveted confines of 15 Central Park West (shown, right) just hit the news–this time it's a 3,173 square-foot apartment that sold for $21 million (IBTimes). Why such demand for 15 CPW? It “may well be the city’s most desirable residential address in terms of amenities, location, and views,” claims CityRealty editor and architecture expert Carter B. Horsley. (Read Horsley’s full review of 15 Central Park West.)

Attempting to snatch the price record for a downtown listing, a three-unit full-floor package deal combo condo (8 bedrooms, 9.5 baths, servant’s quarters) in the rarified environs of Superior Ink at 70 Bethune Street (home of designer Marc Jacobs) was recently listed for $38.5 million (CurbedNY). This West Village condo and townhouse development was designed by Robert A. M. Stern, who also developed 15 Central Park West.

Power Grid
Through April 15, The Museum of the City of New York is exhibiting The Greatest Grid: The Master Plan of Manhattan, 1811-2011, the foundational document that established Manhattan’s famous street grid two centuries ago. The grid was developed to accommodate New York City's  explosively growing population, which at the time was clustered downtown, south of Canal Street.
