NYC Real Estate Roundup

MAY 2, 2012

One World Trade Center officially became NYC’s tallest building this week when its height reached 1,271 feet above street level, relegating the Empire State Building, 21 feet shorter, to second place. At its completed height of 1,776 feet, the office tower will be the tallest building in the western hemisphere, giving residents of nearby Battery Park City buildings like Liberty Luxe and Green even more to brag about (via Curbed).

Spring is heating up the luxury apartment market as sales hit record highs for the year last week. Condos outsold co-ops, and downtown is hot: Of the 22 over-$4 million contracts signed, 10 were for downtown condos. One reason cited for the popularity of condos over co-ops was a preference for them by foreign pied-a-terre buyers who don’t want to deal with the co-op board approval process (NYO).

The Kirkman Lofts at 39 Bridge Street in DUMBO just released listings for its “Townhouse Collection” of four-story interior units with private elevators, perfect for someone who wants the privacy of townhouse living but also likes loft aesthetics and condo amenities. Neighbors include the nearby loft condo conversion The Bridges at 79 Bridge Street (Brownstoner).

Brokers got a sneak peek at model duplex penthouse units at the 70% sold Belltel Lofts at 365 Bridge Street in Downtown Brooklyn this week. The not-yet-listed penthouse units are the last to be completed in the block-long Art Deco building conversion in an area that has been growing steadily in popularity as a residential neighborhood in recent years (DNAInfo).
