Private dining Rooms: Old School or Top-Notch?

NOVEMBER 5, 2009

Private dining rooms for building residents may be the ultimate amenity.

In the late 19th Century, the private and catered dining experience was standard at elegant residences like the Dakota and the Ansonia. Original private dining rooms can still be found at some Upper East Side prewar co-ops like 1 East 66th Street and 825 Fifth Avenue.

When private residences share square footage with a full-service hotel, residents may benefit from hotel-catered private club dining. At One Central Park at the Time Warner Center, ownership includes use of a private dining room from the Mandarin Oriental Hotel and at the Club Metropolitan Tower residents have a dining room that seats 40 with in-house chefs preparing all meals.

The restaurant at 15 Central Park West—run by former Gramercy Tavern chef Michael Burbella—provides private room service and catering. 110 Central Park South offers a private dining lounge, a breakfast bar and catering by celebrated chef Davd Burke.

A handful of newly-minted condominiums offer private dining quarters as well. At the Setai Club, members and their guests can enjoy the culinary skills of world-renowned chef Shaun Hergatt and Azure at 333 East 91st Street offers residents a private dining room and lounge with an adjoining catering kitchen.
