The Hole Story: Tim Hortons Takes Over at Dunkin' Locations

JULY 17, 2009

Canadian donut chain Tim Hortons has replaced the familiar orange and pink coffee-and-snack spot in a few locations through out the city.

The daily routine of many a New Yorker is getting an update with some new flavors and color courtesy of our neighbors to the north. Twelve of the city's Dunkin' Donuts locations have, as of this week, become Tim Hortons.

The Canadian donut chain, founded by the one-time New York Rangers hockey player whose name it bears, features a more subdued red logo than the familiar pink-and-orange of Dunkin,' but the proof is in the donuts. The Canadian confections have a loyal following that swears the chain's "Timbits" beat Dunkin' "Munchkins" hands down. In addition, Tim Hortons–referred to by insiders back home as "Timmy Ho's"– is known for their maple-glazed donuts, and early reports say the coffee holds its own against Dunkin's outsider-favorite status.

Dunkin' still has at least 400 shops in the city, so most people will undoubtedly welcome a bit of variety, no matter how similar. The new Tim Hortons can be found in a variety of locations throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn.
