The Mondrian SoHo: An iPad in Every Room

MARCH 18, 2011

As of March 2011, SoHo has yet another new boutique destination hotel. For the Mondrian SoHo (9 Crosby Street), the Morgans chain (also behind hotels of the same name in Los Angeles and Miami) has conscripted a somewhat less-trafficked street just north of Chinatown that was, until fairly recently, one of the neighborhood’s more industrial alleyways.

Keeping up with the latest sexy tech is an imperative, of course; to that end, guest rooms feature iPads stocked with concierge content in addition to the usual fully-wired entertainment and communication hubs. In addition to the standard modern lux goodies (high thread count sheets, a state-of-the-art 24-hour fitness center), the hotel boasts a 150-seat restaurant, Imperial No. Nine. The new eatery, helmed by young Top Chef emeritus and party-boy Sam Talbot (NY Times), is a sustainable, local seafood establishment hoping to pick up kudos in its own right. The inaugural menu features market-fresh fish, and there’s a garden room ready for springtime al fresco dining. There’s also a new nightspot, Mister H (via CoolHunting), to keep guests busy if the endless cultural life of downtown Manhattan and beyond isn’t enough, or they’d rather not stray far from the hotel’s carefully-cultivated chic-yet-welcoming environs.
