This Week in NYC Living

JULY 1, 2013

4th of July celebrations hit the city with a bang; find a rooftop party or a floating fête and let the fireworks begin.

The Macy’s fireworks–with a soundtrack and visuals designed by pop star Usher and performances by Taylor Swift, Tim McGraw and Mariah Carey–will happen on the Hudson side again this year, but there are plenty of places to snag a river view and some good company. To find out who’s lucky enough to have front-row seats without leaving home, see our list of top buildings for viewing the 4th of July fireworks.

The Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum is throwing its annual viewing bash on the monster aircraft carrier’s flight deck, and there’s a viewing party on Pier 83 on the Hudson in West Midtown (via TONY).

If you prefer your boat to actually be moving, you can book an Independence Day Cruise for the whole family on the Cornucopia Majesty; an all day package deal offers a BBQ rooftop lunch with a Hudson view, a tour, buffet dinner and a fireworks cruise (via TONY). New York Water Taxi, Circle Line and Spirit Cruises also offer special fireworks cruises.

For landlubbers, Riverpark’s First Annual 4th of July BBQ brings the celebration to the East River in Kips Bay; the Liberty Belle Extravaganza happens at the DL on Delancey Street in the Lower East Side and further uptown at the Empire Hotel West Side rooftop; a Williamsburg 4th of July pool party at King and Grove atop the Hotel Williamsburg promises to attract the hip and attractive; the famous Nathan’s International Hot Dog Eating Contest chews up Coney Island.
