Top 10 NYC Apartment Buildings for Santa's Landing

DECEMBER 21, 2011

By CityRealty editor and architecture expert, Carter B. Horsley. NYC apartments - Santa's sleigh

Santa might land his hover-deer on the slanted roof of Citicorp Center, or the former Pan Am building on Park Avenue (which used to have a large, centrally located helipad), or the plaza at the Seagram Building (because it's very pretty), or the roof at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (because that's where he can stockpile his goodies). But Santa does like fireplaces (and cookies) and therefore would prefer
apartment buildings as his landing sites in New York City
—so here are the top 10:

1. New York by Gehry, 8 Spruce Street From this aerie, Santa can slalom down the rental tower’s stainless steel ripples to his very large heart’s delight while taking in all the ho-ho-ho sights of Lower Manhattan.
2. The Beresford, 211 Central Park West This triple-tower luxury cooperative apartment building has very bright “landing” lights atop its towers to guide Santa to a safe landing.
3. Zeckendorf Towers, 1 Irving Place This full-block condominium apartment complex has illuminated see-through pyramids atop its four towers at the corners of its large sleigh-top.
4. One Beacon Court, 158 West 58th Street The top six floors of this mixed-use tower are illuminated but Santa must be nimble to avoid banging into its tall antenna. It’s a natural “refueling” stop since it’s across the street from Bloomingdale’s.
5. Time Warner Center, 80 Columbus Circle This icy, mixed-use complex overlooking Columbus Circle has two, tall, illuminated towers that most travelers use to find the world’s greatest Whole Foods store in the basement— with all the goodies that Santa deserves.
