What's Going on This Week: Thanksgiving Edition

NOVEMBER 26, 2008

Start a new tradition: Help make Thanksgiving more than a lot of hot air.

Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade®
Celebrate the season with a jubilant crowd as all eyes focus on Broadway and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade® . The big event heads down Broadway from 77th Street and Central Park West to 34th Street, with prime viewing along Central Park West between 66th and 77th Streets. Arrive early in the AM to get a good spot. For a fun behind-the-scenes peek, (great for the kids) you can also watch the gigantic balloons being blown up for the event the night before, between 4pm and 8pm on Thanksgiving Eve on 77th & 81st Streets between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue.

Lend a Helping Hand
Though anytime is the right time to lend a helping hand, one way to spread a little thankfulness is to volunteer your time or donate to help those in need. Many city organizations serve meals and offer other services and can use your assistance. The Bowery Mission serves meals most of the week and provides "Blessing Bags." Food Bank for New York City, The New York City Coalition Against Hunger and God's Love We Deliver are also always seeking volunteers to help provide for less fortunate New Yorkers.

And if, for some reason you've got a soft spot for a feathered friend, you can check out the Farm Sanctuary's adopt-a-turkey program and give a big bird a home away from the oven.
