What's Going on This Week

DECEMBER 24, 2008

It's New Year's Eve.

Should you decide to brave the amateur-night hordes hailing impossible-to-obtain taxis, the city will be brimming with sparkling parties and events that request your merrymaking presence.

It's become a New Year's Eve tradition: '70s rebel songstress-turned-suburban-soccer-mom Patti Smith is the real deal. Her shows always sell out early, but tickets can be snagged in the usual spots with a bit of effort.

For a more elegant experience, gourmet dining, and plenty of champagne, look out over Lincoln Center and the city from the rooftop of the Empire Hotel.

If Chuck Berry still has some spring in his step, so should you. Shake it with the king of rock n' roll at B.B. Kings til the wee hours.

And if the ball has come down but you haven't, stop in at Le Poisson Rouge for a 2:30 AM electronica show with of-the-minute record label Ghostly International stars Mattthew Dear and friends.
