The 2010 edition of New York’s Fashion Week kickoff party promises designers, drinks, deals and plenty of stylish surprises. (If you’re too cool for mainstream fashion, check out Tokyo! Look! on Thursday, September 9 for an offbeat fashion party and celebration of Tokyo street style.)

Brooklyn Book Festival
This huge, free public event presents an array of literary stars and emerging authors who represent the exciting world of literature today. Get in the bookish mood with a pre-festival lit crawl on Saturday: It’s a bar crawl…with literature!

Farm City Fair
It’s the city kid version of a country fair: Better food, beer, wine and music, but you can still win the pie-eating contest.
