What's Going on this Week

FEBRUARY 16, 2011

Grown-ups get a culinary happy hour, a brainy poker game and some great sax; the kids get a circus, Sesame Street puppets and more.

Poker for Jokers in Kings
Literary philanthropist Dave Eggers’ educational org 826 NYC can always be counted on for fund-raising events that are offbeat as well as fun and draw a stellar hand of celebrities. This Texas hold-em tournament in a DUMBO loft should be no exception (guests include Michael Ian Black and Ira Glass). The stakes are nothing to sneeze at: The winner gets a $10,000 seat to the World Series of Poker 2011 main event.
Thursday, February 17, 7 p.m.
155 Water Street, DUMBO Loft
Tickets: $350 registration fee

Culinary Happy Hour
Chef Russell Brooks cooks, you drink. Enough said? Sample the chef’s creations—potato pancakes with smoked salmon, blini with eggplant caviar, arepas, and more—with other foodies while you enjoy a cocktail, company and cool cooking secrets.
Thursday, February 17, 6-7 p.m.
92Y Tribeca, 200 Hudson Street

Branford Marsalis and the New York Philharmonic

Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center
Tickets: $30-$115
