The Landmarks Preservation Commission this week approved a revised design for a new 6-story residential condominium building at 685 Washington Street at Charles Street in the Far West Village.

The site has been occupied by a one-story building that was erected in 1937 and at various times served as a garage or a restaurant.

The owners, John and Ronald Pasquale, originally wanted to erect a 7-story, red-brick building with balconies on the Washington Street facade and a cast-stone facade at the building's corner and a cast-stone bandcourse between the 5th and 6th floors.

The final approved designed eliminated the seventh floor, substituted a brick for the cast-stone facade at the corner, reconfigured the balconies to be flush with the facade, changed the cornice from cast stone to glass fiber reinforced concrete, changed the storefront from limestone to brick and aluminum and reconfigured the lot line windows on Washington Street.

The commission, according to an article by Joey yesterday at curbed.com, voted to approve the design as long as the mullions on the corner windows were changed from white to green and the cornice would be enlarged and changed to a darker color.
