118 Riverside Drive CLOSE
This large, 17-story building, which has fine views of Riverside Park and the Hudson River, has 171 apartments. The building has a handsome, canopied, sidestreet entrance with Romanesque-style columns and bronze doors leading to a vestibule that steps up to a large wood-paneled lobby with stained-glass windows.
The building, which has sidewalk landscaping, inconsistent fenestration and permits protruding air-conditioners, was erected in 1929 and converted to a cooperative in 1968. George Herman ("Babe") Ruth, the legendary baseball player, lived here and also at the Ansonia apartment building on Broadway at 73rd Street.
The neighborhood is very attractive and Zabar's, the famous food and kitchen store, and other well-known stores are not too far away on Broadway.
